Mission:
Provide emergency financial assistance to
soldiers, retirees, and their families
Army
Emergency Relief is a private nonprofit organization incorporated in 1942
by the Secretary of the War and the Army Chief of Staff. AER's mission is
to provide emergency financial assistance for active duty soldiers;
soldiers retired from active duty; ARNG and USAR soldiers on active duty
for more than 30 days; ARNG and USAR soldiers who retired at age 60;
surviving spouses and orphans of soldiers who died while on active duty or
after they retired and their family members.
An AER
emergency is any condition that arises suddenly, is unforeseen and urgent,
and requires immediate attention. Some examples of areas in which AER can
help include assistance with food; rent; utilities; personal needs when
pay is delayed or stolen; emergency travel; essential vehicle repair; car
and insurance payments; or medical, dental, or hospital expenses (when
care was not elective and payments cannot be arranged.
AER
cannot assist with such things as ordinary leave or vacations; legal
expenses; help pay for nonessentials; liquidate or consolidate debt;
assist with house purchase or home improvements; help purchase, rent or
lease a vehicle; cover bad checks or pay credit card
bills.
Benefits:
If eligible, assistance can be given in the form of:
- No
interest loan
- Grant (given on case by case basis)
- Part loan part
grant (given on a case by case basis).
