The Army has a zero tolerance policy on sexual assault. It is a crime that has no place in the Army. It degrades mission readiness by devastating the Army’s ability to work effectively as a team. Sexual assault is incompatible with the Army Values and is punishable under the UCMJ.
The Fort Richardson Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program (SAPRP) provides 24/7 crisis intervention and support services to all active duty Soldiers who are victims of sexual assault. Trained and professional victim advocates stand ready provide a helping hand through support, critical information, and referrals for services on Fort Richardson and in the local Anchorage community.
Victim advocates assist survivors in determining what they wish to do, where to get help, and whether they choose to report the assault or not. They accompany survivors to medical visits, court proceedings, and other appointments as requested.
Sexual assault is defined as intentional sexual contact, characterized by physical threat or when the victim does not or cannot consent.
Types of sexual assault include:
- Rape
- Nonconsensual Sodomy
- anal or oral sex without consent
- Indecent Assault
- sexual grabbing or touching without consent
Sexual assault can affect anyone and occurs without regard to gender, race, age, or economic status.
All victims of sexual assault will be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect during the reporting process. All active duty Soldiers have reporting options.
